Buttload
The noun butt names a cask or a two-wheeled cart. In the UK West Country, a butt-load formerly was a measure of volume of 48 bushels. In this usage, the butt referred to was the two-wheeled wagon.
Buttload did not become popular until the 1990s, and because of this, I doubt that the old word is the source of the new word. I suspect that modern speakers use butt as an intensifier in the same sense that they use big-ass.
