Ditto

The noun ditto means the same as already stated. Ditto is a 17th century Tuscan dialect Italian word that meant said as in aforesaid. In Italian, the word was a shortening of the phrase that means in the aforesaid month. English speakers adopted the term with the generalized meaning. Today, Italians say idem instead of ditto.
